Sustainability & Circularity
A joined-up approach to sustainability, combining efficient manufacturing, smarter design, and reduced on-site waste.
Plant Sustainability
At Gradient, sustainability is embedded within our manufacturing approach. Our production processes are designed to minimise environmental impact at every stage — from raw material handling through to finished product delivery.
We work continuously to:
- Reduce CO₂ emissions through efficient manufacturing and process optimisation
- Minimise waste generation by improving material yield and production accuracy
- Maximise recyclability by keeping offcuts within a controlled factory environment
One of the key environmental advantages of off-site fabrication is the ability to manage waste more effectively. Unlike site-based cutting, where materials are often discarded, factory-controlled cutting allows offcuts to be captured, sorted, and reprocessed without leaving the production facility. This significantly reduces landfill waste and transport-related emissions.
Beyond our own operations, we take a holistic approach to sustainability by working with:
- Suppliers who share responsible environmental practices
- Customers to develop tailored waste management strategies for each project
This collaborative approach ensures that sustainability is considered not just at manufacture, but across the entire project lifecycle.
Sustainability on Site
Reducing transport and emissions
- Optimised packaging and pallet configurations allow more boards to be transported per delivery
- Fewer deliveries mean lower carbon emissions and reduced site congestion
Minimising material waste
- Boards are designed and installed from high points to low points, ensuring cuts are made at the thinner end — where less material is removed
- The provision of half boards and designed infills enables more precise detailing, reducing unnecessary offcuts
- Mitred board layouts maximise use of available material while maintaining accuracy in complex roof geometries
Improving installation efficiency
- Pre-cut and factory-formed components reduce the need for site cutting
- Improved accuracy helps to:
- Reduce installation errors
- Limit material wastage
- Enhance overall build quality
Supporting long-term building performance
Sustainability extends beyond installation. By improving drainage design and thermal efficiency, tapered insulation contributes to:
- Reduced operational energy demand through improved thermal performance
- Extended roof lifespan by preventing water ponding and associated damage
- Lower long-term maintenance requirements
A joined-up approach to sustainability
From factory to finished roof, Gradient’s approach ensures:
- Less waste
- Fewer deliveries
- More efficient use of materials
- Better long-term building performance
By integrating sustainability into both manufacturing and on-site application, we help customers deliver projects that are not only compliant, but also more environmentally responsible.
